Gas Plant Manager
Job Summary
The Gas Plant Manager is responsible for leading the safe operations of a natural gas treating plant, including managing plant operators, materials, supplies and services procurement as well as maintenance planning and execution. Plant facility processes can include gas treating operations, plant compression, dehydration equipment operation, control systems, injection systems, and other methods.
Primary Job Duties
- Safe plant operation by planning, scheduling, and directing work, monitoring operating performance.
- Coordinates with commercial and engineering teams providing input and ideas on projects related to ongoing expansion projects.
- Works with Operations, Engineering, Health and Safety, and Environmental Compliance and Permitting on design reviews, preconstruction items, Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Management of Change (MOC), and Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR) to ensure facilities are constructed and operated per permit requirements.
- Reviews and analyzes various operating data from Distributed Control System to monitor compliance with our and regulatory permits.
- Assist in creating an operating budget and managing monthly operating and capex expenses in accordance with.
- Recruit, train and onboard new employees.
- Performs other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the organization as directed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure employees are fully trained in, committed to, and conduct their activities in accordance with all aspects of Wink’s policies and procedures.
- Leads reliability, compliance, quality, and safety programs for assigned area; ensures required government and/or environmental regulations are met.
- Accountable for continuously working to reduce plant operating costs through the incorporation of Operational Excellence strategies.
- Decisions are guided by policies, procedures and senior management's direction related to the business plan.
- Manage and escalate, as required, equipment, product quality and delivery issues.
- Monitors production/manpower levels to ensure continued efficiency while anticipating problems and assisting with developing contingencies.
- Manage employee performance by setting expectations, providing guidance, feedback, and development for career progression and performance improvement.
- Maximizing reliability in order to avoid unscheduled shutdowns resulting in interruption of supply to customers.
- Driving improvements in productivity and cost savings
- Driving improvement in the safety culture at the facility
- Ensuring that the facility completes compliance related items (PHA, RCA,etc.) in a timely manner.
- Effectively working within the matrix organization to enlist assistance from support groups.
- Accountability for adhering to all Corporate and plant policies including OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, and TECQ air, water, and waste regulations.
Required Competencies / Prerequisites
- High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
- A minimum of 7 years plant operational experience is required; natural gas sour treating supervising experienced preferred.
- A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record
- Willing to work extra time and respond to after-hours operational issues.
- Effective communication skills, interpersonal skills, and ability to build relationships.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Prefer candidate with knowledge of Process Safety Management (PSM) - OSHA CFR29 1910.110 and EPA Risk Management Program – 40 CFR 68.
- Must have computer experience, with a preference for experience in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and accurately both orally and in written format; must be able to prepare reports to convey information clearly and concisely.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, staff, customers, and the public.
Other Requirements
- Use experience to lead solutions to operational problems.
- Implement improvements in operational efficiency and effectiveness.
- Emergency response: Provide incident command to emergency responders, and lead mock and tabletop exercises.
- Must be able to work and perform independently.
- Ability to read and interpret Piping and Instrumentation Diagram
- Ability to work beyond normal workday hours as role requires 24/7 responsibility.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull a minimum of 25lbs.
- Ability to work in changing climate and conditions.
Physical Requirements

The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must be able to work in close quarters and frequently lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
